5 Seconds of Summer

Its over a year since my last post on these guys… lets just say I’m way ahead of the curve  haha. The Australian pop rockers finally stormed the UK charts today with a No.1 iTunes single and Album.  ‘She looks so perfect’ , is the bands first chart position in the UK.

The band supported international superstars One Direction on their Take Me Home Tour last year, clearly gaining a massive following in the process.

The new single is definitely a fresh breath of pop rock; with a mature and filling sound for such a new and young band thanks to the gifted lead vocals of  Luke Hemmings. Let’s hope for more than five seconds of summer!

The video for she looks so perfect is probably a factor to its success, so try to hold back the urge to rip your clothes off and dance while watching this…

With some of the biggest hook-ups to date the album features, not only smash hit collabs with friend Pitbull, but Flo Rida Jennifer Lopez and kylie Monogue!

The bilingual album contains a mixture of dance, ballad, latin and pop. Already there has been immense hype surrounding ‘Beautiful’, featuring kylie Mongue. The clips i have listened to sound amazing, as do all the the other songs, some of which have been released over the past few years.

  • 3. Banks
  • 4. Sampha
  • 5. George Ezra

Sam Smith appears to be getting a lot of hype and has already won best new artist and sound of 2014 (even though its just begun, but ok..) he follows in the steps of some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Ellie Golding, Adele and Jessie J. Sam does have an exceptional voice and range, so i have no doubt this talented singer songwriting will go far in 2014.

One singer that will go even farther and hasn’t been mentioned of listed, is the sensational Leah Mcfall! Coming from the same village as me i watched her perform at church, and was captivated from the first moment i heard that voice. ‘The Voice’ finalist, has just completed her first studio album and finished a European tour with This year i have no doubt she will make her mark – worldwide.

Robin Thicke is back to ‘Give it to you’ in his follow up from the summer hit, ‘Blurred lines’. With two new rappers, the song and video reiterates the formula of blurred lines, with the random flashing red titles of peoples names for no reason and of course his fixation on sex and alcohol, but the song is catchy and fun and will no doubt do well in the charts.

We have Diane Martel to thank for these videos, who also directed ‘We can’t stop’, such classy stuff, whatever next.

Avicii is back with his follow up the the international smash ‘Wake me up’.

Hype is building surrounding this Swedish DJ as he drops his new album in a few weeks.

His new single ‘You Make Me’ has just been launched and will no doubt do well due to his phenomenal success and demand at present.

Following the success of ‘Wake Me Up,’ which mixed EDM with folk music, its clear to see this new formula and mashup is capturing fans from all genres of music. Likewise ‘You Make Me’ isn’t standard EDM but samples alternative and indie rock , including the falsetto vocal “All of my life / I’ve been looking for someone like you.”

“Avicii’s brilliance lies in his ability to pull from other genres to create something totally unique, all the while still retaining club banger essence. That’s exactly what he does with ‘You Make Me.’ He makes it new.”

Avicii proves to master new sounds and open the EDM genre up to a whole other world of listeners. It may not be his intention, but its working.

The new album, ‘True,’ is out Sept. 17th. An immediate must have.
